__________________________________________

-Louvel, Imriel-

Imriel Louvel Rsc4fa

    Date of Birth: 01/01/1992
    Age: 18
    Gender: Male
Address: Bangor Psychiatric Hospital for Troubled Youth, 415 Larkspur Ave., Bangor, ME 04401
Physical Appearance: 6'1", 150 pounds, brown hair, blue eyes, various scars from cutting and burning himself on multiple occasions.

-Medical History-

Do you suffer from any ongoing medical conditions such as heart conditions, diabetes, asthma or other long-term physical disabilities, diseases or afflictions?

Imriel suffers from none of these. He is easily susceptible to the cold and the flu, but otherwise he's always been a physically fit, healthy boy.

Do you have any allergies to foods, inhalants or medications? Please list allergies and age of onset below.

Imriel has no allergies.

Does your family have a history of any ongoing medical conditions such as heart conditions, diabetes, asthma or other long-term physical disabilities, diseases or afflictions?

His grandmother passed away from breast cancer, and his mother is currently housed in a psychiatric facility for adults, being treated for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, but besides that, no other afflictions that we know of.

-Psychological History-

Do you, or have you ever suffered from a mental affliction, or do you feel that you have problems with your state of mind? Examples could be anxiety, depression, seeing or hearing things that are not there, suffering from uncontrollable impulses, or entertaining damaging thoughts such as wanting to harm/kill oneself or do something damaging to another person. Have you ever abused controlled substances, alcohol, or prescription medications?

Imriel is a very troubled young man. Like his mother, he suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, but on a more mild level. His mother's affliction has rendered her catatonic, while Imriel still continues to function. He is also afflicted with depression and we believe he may have a dependent personality, though we have been unable to diagnose it. He is a self-harmer, though not suicidal as far as we can infer. He claims that he harms himself as a sort of release, a purging of painful thoughts and memories. The pain seems to give him some sort of mental clarity he cannot otherwise achieve; however, when he does find a way to self-harm, he doesn't seem to have any limitations as to just how much pain he is willing to inflict on himself. He has been oblivious to the severity of his injuries on multiple accounts, not knowing when to stop. While he is not an insomniac, he sleeps poorly, often tossing and turning throughout the night, battling terrible recurring nightmares. The onset of these issues, so he tells us, began at the age of 12, when a friend of his from school was killed in a car accident. These issues have only worsened following his father's suicide and his mother's mental breakdown at age 14. He has never been drunk, nor has he ever taken controlled substances or prescription medications. He smokes cigarettes on occasion.

Have you ever seen someone for these problems or addictions? Or have you been hospitalised or housed in an institution or home for people who suffer from mental afflictions, or admitted to a drug rehabilitation centre? If so, for how long, and what was your diagnosis?

I am Imriel's primary therapist, and he has been here with us since the age of 14. He came to stay with us after his mother was admitted to a psychiatric facility following his father's suicide by gunshot wound to the head in their home. He had nowhere else to go, so he became a ward of the state. As I said, we do not believe that he is suicidal, since he never speaks of wanting to die. He says he does not want to kill himself, only find a release for his emotional pain, some sort of physical distraction that will keep the nightmares and his depression at bay. Nevertheless, we try to keep him under close supervision due to his dangerous self-harming tendencies, as we are afraid that one day he might accidentally inflict a fatal wound. He has certainly come close in the past. He does not seem discriminatory as to the type of weapon he uses when he harms himself. He will use anything he can get his hands on that might cut, burn or bruise him.

-Personal History-

Where were you born, and where did you grow up? Were there any complications during your birth? What was your infancy like?

Imriel was born and raised here in Bangor. His birth was normal, as was his infancy.

Did you ever have any long-term separation from your parents?

Neither of Imriel's parents were around much, though his mother tried to give him a normal upbringing. His father was an alcoholic and a heroin addict and was not home often, and his mother worked long hours as a waitress at a local diner to support the family. Imriel was often left under the care of a babysitter while both parents were out. When his parents were both at home, his father was often drunk and beat his mother badly. Imriel did not suffer the same abuse, but was neglected instead. He tells us his mother tried to be a good parent, but her hours at work were demanding and his father's abuse prevented her from giving Imriel the love and care he needed while growing up.

Do you have any siblings? If so, did you get along well with them?

He is an only child.

Did you attend public or private school, and if so, what were your grades like and how did you feel about it?

He attended public school up until age 14, and we have been told that while he appeared to be a bright child and showed great promise, his poor home life was an obstacle to his education. The neglect he suffered was a distraction while in grade school, preventing him from getting good grades. He barely managed to move on to the next grade level each year, even with tutoring.

Do you have an interest in the opposite or same sex, and if so, when did you become aware of this interest?

Imriel shows little interest in the opposite sex, and while living in the facility has not given him many opportunities to socialize or form many relationships, he has admitted to me that he has feelings for his best friend, a boy named Jude. Only recently has he confessed his homosexuality. It's doubtful that he's actually been able to act upon any sexual impulses while here, but we can't be sure. When asked, Imriel has expressed that he has a healthy sex drive and harbors feelings of sexual desire and romantic interest in other young men, though we have never seen him act upon them. He refuses to answer when asked if he has. He seems to feel it a highly personal matter and does not like to talk about it much.

Were you ever admitted to a psychiatric or correctional facility for juveniles, and if so why were you admitted, and how did you feel about it?

As I said, Imriel has been with us since the age of 14. He does not express a great like or dislike for living here. Most of the time he is very placid, agreeable and even timid, keeping to himself a great majority of the time. When approached, however, he does not seem averse to conversing with others, so long as he does not feel threatened. He does not have many close friends here aside from Jude. He latched onto him and seems to rely on him quite a bit, even though the other boy's temperament is very different from Imriel's. He displays subtle dependent tendencies with the boy.

-Criminal History-

Have you ever been convicted of a crime? If so, what was the conviction, and was was the sentence served, or fine paid?

He has never been convicted of a crime.

Have you ever taken or abused controlled substances? Have you ever had an addiction to prescription medications, or have you abused alcohol?

Imriel has never consumed alcohol or any other drug besides the medications we administer here, and the occasional cigarette when offered.

-Personal Interview-

What are your goals in life?

When asked, Imriel does not seem to care much about developing any sort of lifelong goal for himself. When pressed, however, he does admit a longing for love and affection that is partially satisfied by Jude, but not fully, since the other boy does not reciprocate his romantic sentiments. I would not be surprised to learn that Imriel and Jude have been intimate when our backs have been turned, but neither will admit to it if they have been. We are not surprised that Imriel desires love, however, since he suffered such great neglect from his parents in his youth.

How do you hope that our facilities might help you in achieving those goals?

Since Imriel is now 18, we cannot keep him at our facility any longer and are loathe to send him to the same institute his mother is currently housed in. We feel it would be best for him to be at your facility, as it is one of the nation's best. We have not made much progress with Imriel in the four years since he's been here, because unfortunately we are overcrowded and understaffed, and we hope that he will receive greater attention there and perhaps achieve a peace of mind that will allow him to someday live independently. He needs to find a healthy way of dealing with his demons and learn how to stop using self-harming techniques as a coping mechanism.

Finally, tell us a bit about yourself.

Imriel is not a difficult young man to get along with. He is bright and well-spoken but generally withdrawn. He does not express a need for other friends besides Jude, but we believe the boy may be somewhat of a distraction to his rehabilitation here. Imriel does not like to do anything without him, even when Jude would rather be alone. We want him to be self-reliant and self-sufficient, but his dependency on the other young man has the potential to become even more harmful to his well-being and detrimental to his progress if we allow it to go on. We want to send him to a place where he can get better care and meet new people. He needs to be socialized with his peers more, and he needs more intensive therapy than we can currently provide, therapy that will address his PTSD, depression, abandonment issues, self-harming behaviors and work to improve upon his fragile mental state. While we want to urge him to be independent, he has not yet reached a state where he can be trusted with a great amount of freedom, as he will not hesitate to inflict physical pain on himself if given the opportunity. We recommend close supervision of Imriel until he shows obvious progress on his road to recovery and a willingness to get better. The most disturbing thing about him, perhaps, is that he seems perfectly content to live in an institute for the rest of his life, expressing little desire to be on his own or take care of himself.
